These City Council members are among those entrusted with a slice of America's security. The ability of local authorities to keep tabs on people who should not be there is important, and the country's safety also relies on localized matters like stopping unlicensed drivers, making it more difficult for some criminals to make it around the US. Legitimate DUI checkpoints (and these do seem legitimate, despite some understandable concerns regarding inconveniences for law-abiding citizens) are an effective and efficient method of law enforcement. The main thrust of the article, with people complaining about the roadblocks because they are bad for troublemakers (who "otherwise obey the law," as if that somehow excuses the laws being broken), just does not compute.
